Programme Notes

MedEia

The piece is in five movements and was originally composed for the theatre production MedEia (by Oscar van Woensel) - a modern adaptation of Euripides' Medea, which was staged in Studio 3 of the Drama Department at Goldsmiths College, University of London, from 5 until 9 June 2002 (directed by Felicitas Brucker).

The first movement combines several recorded percussion sounds manipulated in the studio, the second features a mbira (south African thumb piano) along with synthesised and processed sounds, while the last three movements use entirely electronic sounds.
